Congrats on your upcoming Roman Holiday! Rome is one of the most beautiful cities in the world thanks to its rich architecture and historical significance. It’s the perfect city to kick off your Italian adventure, but things can get a bit complicated if you don’t know how to get to the city center. Chances are that you’re arriving at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport (Leonardo da Vinci International Airport), which is one of the busiest airports in the entire world.

Don’t stress, however. Getting to Rome’s bustling city streets is just one train ride away!  The Leonardo Express train offers the most efficient public transportation option to Roma Termini, the central train station. Roma Termini is one of the busiest train stations in all of Europe and will get you wherever you need to go.

The Leonardo Express Train Gets You to The Heart of Rome

The Leonardo Express is a dedicated airport train service that whisks travelers directly from Fiumicino (Rome’s main international airport) to Termini Station. The train comes every 15 minutes, though delays are a maximum of up to 30 minutes. The quick train gets you to Rome’s Termini Station in just 32 minutes. That’s enough of a commute to give you time to double-check all your reservations or learn about the biggest tourist traps to avoid in Rome.

The train comes daily and operates from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM daily. One ticket costs €14 one-way. If you’re traveling with little ones, know that children under 4 get to travel for free. Here’s a bonus: if you buy an adult ticket, one child over 4 but under 12 years of age can travel for free! Talk about a value play.

Getting a ticket isn’t difficult at all. We recommend getting your train ticket to Rome Termini from the station kiosks. The station is located directly in Fiumicino Airport railway station, making it easily accessible from all terminals. While it’s easy to get a ticket, be sure to validate your ticket before boarding to avoid fines. Also, remember that the train has tons of luggage space so feel free to load up with 1 bag or 10.

Why You Should Go To Termini Station

Deciding to go to Rome Termini is a no-brainer. Chances are that your hotel is a short walk away from the train station, which sees thousands of travelers grace its terminals every day. And even if your hotel is ways away from Rome Termini, you shouldn’t fret as the station is well connected. The Red and Blue lines of Rome’s Metro are located right at the station, which should have you at your hotel in a matter of minutes. If you’re traveling outside of the city, Rome Termini has numerous city bus routes, train connections, and regional and long-distance trains

Other Transportation Options From Rome’s Airport

In most cases, we think the Leonardo Express is the best choice. It’s a budget-conscious way to get to the city as quickly as possible. In fact, it’ll probably get you to the heart of the city quicker than a taxi. However, there are other options worth considering. You can always get a shuttle bus. Companies like Terravision and SIT Bus Shuttle offer services from the airport to Termini for as little as €8 euros. You can always get a taxi as well. There’s a fixed fare of €48 from Fiumicino to anywhere within Rome’s Aurelian Walls. This is a decent option if you’re traveling with multiple adults.
