It’s the night before your cruise and you have no idea if you can bring your curling iron on board. Trust me, I’ve been in that position way too many times. The monkey mind goes on and on, spiraling, thinking, “Can I take it? Will security take away my curling iron? Is it too late to get an upgrade on the cruise ship? Will there be booze?” Stop the chatter! You can bring a curling iron on the cruise ship and there’s no catch.
Bring The Curling Iron For Your Cruise Trip
Here’s the good news: almost every major cruise line allows curling irons and hair straighteners onboard. We’re talking Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Norwegian, Disney, Celebrity, MSC, Viking, and Cunard. They’re basically the only heat producing devices you’re allowed to bring, which makes sense since nobody wants to deal with frizzy cruise ship hair for an entire week. Plus, you gotta look cute for all the photos you’re gonna post on social media which ostensibly serve as free marketing for these cruise lines…
Your curling iron is fine. Your travel steamer? It’s game over, buddy, you can’t take that. Your coffee maker? No, you have to pay $7 for a coffee on board, sorry. But that trusty hair tool that helps you look like a human being? Totally allowed. Before your trip, go on your cruise ships website and see what’s prohibited! You’ll be surprised to learn that most stuff isn’t allowed.
Use Your Curling Iron Responsibly
Always unplug your curling iron immediately after use and let it cool down completely. Cruise cabins are tiny, so leaving a hot curling iron on a plastic counter or tossing it on your bed while it’s still warm is asking for trouble. Make sure you treat your iron with respect and care. The last thing anybody wants to be is the individual who gets curling irons banned on cruises for everyone else.
Getting Your Curling Iron Through Airport Security
The TSA allows corded curling irons in both carry on and checked luggage with zero restrictions. They just don’t allow water through airport security, which poses a larger risk! One note though: Cordless or butane curling irons can only go in your carry on and must have a safety cover over the heating element.
