Finding halal food at American theme parks used to mean packing your own lunch or surviving on fries and boring veggie burgers. Luckily, that’s not the case anymore. Major theme parks across the United States have finally caught up to the reality that Muslim families want to enjoy roller coasters without worrying about what they can eat.
With over 4.5 million Muslims in America, it makes sense that major theme park players like Disney and Universal are starting to accommodate folks of different faiths. It’s actually quite surprising how accommodating Disney and Universal can be considering that not all cruises offer halal options to their patrons.
Walt Disney World Leads The Pack
Walt Disney World in Orlando offers the most comprehensive halal dining of any theme park in the United States. Every park has quick service locations where you can get halal meals without advance notice, including Satu’li Canteen at Animal Kingdom, ABC Commissary at Hollywood Studios, Sunshine Seasons at Epcot, and Tony’s Town Square Restaurant at Magic Kingdom. Users on TikTok have reported that getting halal meals at quick service locations is easy, but you’ll have to wait longer than usual for the food to be prepared. That’s not bad considering you’ll actually be able to enjoy some meat!s
For table service restaurants, you can request halal meals 24 hours in advance by calling 407-WDW-DINE. Disney sources halal protein from certified vendors and prepares it separately to prevent cross contamination. Popular spots like Spice Road Table in Epcot’s Morocco pavilion and Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater offer halal options regularly. Of course, a lot of the best deserts at Disney World are already halal to begin with.
Universal Orlando Requires More Planning
Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure offer halal meals, but the system is less flexible than Disney’s. You must email Food.Allergy@universalorlando.com at least five days in advance to request Halal Fresh meals at $95 per person, which includes salad, entree, and dessert. This advance notice requirement makes spontaneous dining impossible. Instagram users, however, have compiled guides to make navigating quick-service restaurants a bit easier.
The good news? Universal’s surrounding International Drive area is packed with halal restaurants, all within a short drive from the parks.
